Are you suffering from acne? Acne occurs when sebaceous glands overproduce sebum. Sebum can become trapped in hair follicles, irritating the skin and creating pimples—and if left untreated, certain types of acne can lead to permanent scarring. At Skincare by Skin Spot in Chilliwack, British Columbia, we build personalized acne treatment plans using Nordlys Ellipse IPL, LightStim blue LED, photodynamic therapy (PDT) for stubborn inflammatory acne, medical‑grade skincare, and microneedling for acne scars.
Physician‑overseen protocols and experienced clinicians
Multi‑modality approach to calm active acne and treat discoloration/scars
Nordlys Ellipse IPL with Dual Mode Filtering to precisely target vessels feeding overactive sebaceous glands
Medical‑grade home care to maintain results between visits
Clear treatment mapping with session counts, timelines, and follow‑ups
Our Nordlys system treats acne—especially inflammatory acne (red, aching, raised pimples)—by reducing blood supply to the sebaceous gland to help slow excess oil production. The Ellipse IPL delivers short, safe bursts of light to the skin. With patented Dual Mode Filtering, the system filters light so only the wavelengths needed for treatment are used—impacting the blood vessels that supply the sebaceous gland while sparing surrounding vessels.
Most clients describe the sensation as a practically pain‑free series of light flicks—like a rubber band snap—and no topical anesthetic is required. After treatment, the skin may feel like gentle warmth after a day on the beach.
Onset: early calming in 1–2 weeks (redness/lesions)
Typical series (IPL): 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart
Complementary care: LightStim blue LED (1–2×/week for 4–6 weeks), PDT (1–3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart for recurrent inflammatory acne), and microneedling for acne scars after active breakouts are controlled
Inflammatory acne (papules/pustules)
Comedonal acne (whiteheads/blackheads)
Oiliness/sebaceous overactivity
Post‑inflammatory redness & dark marks (PIE/PIH)
Acne scars (rolling, shallow boxcar) via microneedling
Unsure which type you have? We’ll assess and tailor the safest, most effective plan.
Consultation & skin analysis — history, triggers, routines, sensitivities.
Treatment planning — whether IPL, LED, PDT, or staged combinations are indicated.
In‑clinic treatment — Ellipse IPL passes (no anesthetic needed; rubber‑band snap sensation) and/or LED/PDT as mapped.
Aftercare — gentle routine and SPF; written guidance for any downtime (e.g., PDT).
Visit length: ~20–45 minutes depending on modality
Comfort: mild; most clients tolerate well without numbing
IPL/PDT: not suitable with recent tanning, photosensitizing meds, certain skin types/conditions, pregnancy, or active infection in the area.
PDT requires strict sun avoidance for 48–72 hours after treatment.
We avoid microneedling over active pustules.
We’ll review your medical history and skin type (Fitzpatrick) to ensure eligibility and select safe settings.
Ellipse IPL with Dual Mode Filtering targets the blood vessels supplying sebaceous glands, helping reduce excess oil and calm inflammatory lesions.
Most people find it very tolerable—it can feel like a light rubber band flick. No topical anesthetic is required for IPL acne treatments.
Plans vary. IPL often involves 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart. We may pair this with LightStim and, for persistent inflammatory acne, PDT.
IPL: mild redness or warmth that settles quickly.
PDT: expect several days of redness/flaking and strict sun avoidance (48–72 hours).
LED: minimal to none.
Yes—once active acne is controlled, we can address acne scars with microneedling in a staged plan.
LED is suitable for most skin types. IPL/PDT eligibility depends on Fitzpatrick type and recent sun exposure; we’ll advise alternatives if needed.
